The Arequipa, or white city, as they are also known is home to unique structures built from volcanic ash and rocks.

The Iquitos is Peru's gateway to natures paradise and the Amazon River. Charter a boat to see various species of flora and fauna. Iquitos is home to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve where you can find hundreds of different species of mammals, fish and birds. Enjoy the local museum and shopping for souvenirs. See live monkeys, herons, turtles, and many more creatures on land, air and water.

About 3,810 meters above sea level is Lake Titicaca which is one of the largest lakes in the world. It is known to be the legendary birthplace of Inca gods. It was also home to ancient cultures like the Aymaras. The Aymaras resided on manmade islets called Uros that remain intact today. It is the highest navigable lake in the globe where the Incas are supposedly from.

Hovering 3,028 meters above sea levels is Huaraz. It was made famous by the movie Touching the Void. Here, you can bike, ski, paraglide, kayak or just bird watch. You can also go rafting, hike and go climbing. The region was devastated by a 1970 earthquake and subsequent avalanche and floods. Half of the 30,000 inhabitants of Huaraz were killed in the quake.

The intriguing Nasca Lines can be seen from the air. If budget permits, hire a private plane and fly over the region where you will see 65 kilometer long drawings etched into the ground. The lines resemble animals and other things. It is still unexplained how or when the large etchings were created. They were found in 1921 by pilots flying over the area.
