Krugersdorp, a great outdoor holiday experience.
The small mining town of Krugersdorp is locate din the Gauteng Province. I think this is such a great place to enjoy a family holiday. There are so many fun out-door and in-door activities to participate in. I tried to squeeze in as much as possible; however there was just not enough time. There is also several beautiful old buildings and churches that carry so much history. Without second thoughts , I would go spend time in Krugersdorp again.
Bridge swinging was the first activity on my list. What an experience. You are securely harnessed in and I felt completely safe. The jump is 45 meters of free-falling and all your worries go away. After feeling the tension of the ropes the rest of the ride is smooth, swaying backwards and forwards taking in the amazing views. You are then slowly lowered to the ground. All the equipment is supplied and no experience is needed. Come and take you "leap of faith" , remember dress appropriately.
If been afraid of heights is one of your biggest fears then the Burma Bridge is not for you.Consisting of four cables 120 meters and 60 meters above ground this is not for the weak. There is a bottom cable that you walk on, one above your head that your harness is attached to and two on the sides that act like hand rails. The slightest breeze has you swaying from side to side. Adrenalin will pump through your body and don't worry you are completely safe.
The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve attracts thousands of tourists each year from babies to the older folks and covers 16 000 ha of typical Gauteng terrain. From predators to herbivores, tame and wild big or small all animals of Africa roam this park. At the park there are a wide range of animals including Cheetahs, wild dogs, birds, buck and the rare white, Siberian and Bengal tigers make up 25 of the 600 species at the park. There is also an animal crche where children can rub baby lion, cheetah and tiger cubs, photos can also be taken. There is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy from the 30 shaded braai areas, several picnic spots, a great restaurant, swimming pool and a children's playground.
Near Krugersdorp lies the Cradle of Human Kind. Here you will find the amazing Sterkfontain Caves. For me this was one of those events that I will never forget. Here dramatic discoveries changed the way we view the history of human development, many human and animal fossils have been found in these caves dating as far back as 4 million years ago. The two most famous fossils found are "Mrs. Ples" a 2.0 million year old skull and "Little Foot" a 3 million year old almost complete skeleton. There is a great exhibition and restaurant as well along with many family friendly activities that can be enjoyed. With spectacular views and so much to learn this is without a doubt a "must do" on your list to do Krugersdorp.
